What natural fibers and materials are used in our pillows and rugs?

Overview of natural and recycled fibers used in our products.

Our pillows, like some of our rugs, are also made from natural fibers.

Ramie – Also known as China grass, grass cloth, or China linen was been exported from East Asia to the Western hemisphere since early in the 18th century. It is made from the stalks of the Chinese Nettle plant. It is like linen which is made from the stalks of the flax plant.  It has been used for over five thousand years - it is older than Cotton.

Recycled Sari Silk – This yarn is a by-product of colorful saris that women wear in South Asia. The loose ends of saris are collected from industrial mills in India and hand spun into yarn. Sometimes made from recycled clothing. They have vibrant colors and a unique texture. Often considered a green fiber.

Silk – Silk is a natural protein fiber that features a soft hand, lustrous appearance, and superior draping qualities.

Viscose from Bamboo - is fabricated from natural bamboo, made from the pulp or cellulose of bamboo plants. It is naturally hypoallergenic.

Velvet - Fabric having a short, dense pile, used in clothing and upholstery. Velvet is made in the pile weave of silk, cotton, or synthetic fibers and is characterized by a soft, downy surface formed by clipped yarns. They are also occasionally patterned or embossed.

Wool – Wool is a natural textile fiber obtained from various animals, but in rug production the term “wool” usually refers to the fibrous protein derived from sheep. The quality of wool is determined by various factors, but fiber diameter is the single most important wool characteristic determining quality and price. The finer the wool the softer it is, while coarser grades are more durable.
