What is the best way to vacuum different types of rugs?
Guidelines for vacuuming various rug types to prevent damage and extend lifespan.
Regular vacuuming is essential for removing deeply embedded dirt and prolonging the life of your rug. Before you vacuum, make sure you consider your rug’s construction, as noted below. We recommend removing or turning off the beater bar before vacuuming. Use a vacuum cleaner without a beater bar or one where you can set the bar to the highest pile setting. If your vacuum has variable power settings, set on low. Vacuum full length of the rug, turn and repeat to the next area, rather than back and forth motion.
Regular Pile: Vacuum regularly. We recommend once a week with a regular pile (especially in the first month), unless it’s looped, braided or a shag rug. And for rugs made of natural fiber, it is normal to see some shedding in the first months of ownership.
Shag: For shag rugs, shake them outside to loosen dirt and other particles.
Loop/Braided: If the rug has a loop or braid texture, you should always remove or turn off the beater bar. If it cannot be removed or turned off, set the vacuum to the highest possible height.
