How should I clean and care for a wool rug?

Best practices for stain removal, vacuuming, and protecting wool rugs.

If it’s a spill on a wool rug, absorb as much of the liquid as possible with a towel. Then dilute a common cleaning detergent with warm water or mix a teaspoon of natural detergent and a teaspoon of pure white vinegar with a quart of warm water. For best results, gently wipe the surface both with and against the pile direction, then dry with a towel.

Vacuum your wool rug regularly to remove loose dirt, dust, and debris. Use a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment or a handheld vacuum to gently clean the rug's surface and lift any embedded particles. Vacuum in the direction of the pile to avoid damaging the fibers.

Important Note: Rotate your wool rug periodically to promote even wear and prevent uneven fading or wear in high-traffic areas. This helps distribute foot traffic and extends the rug's lifespan.

CAUTION: Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, as it can cause fading and damage to the rug fibers over time. If possible, place the rug in a location where it's shielded from intense sunlight or use window treatments to block UV rays.
