What is a hand-knotted rug? How is it made?

The most prestigious and durable rug-making method, crafted knot by knot.

Characteristics — Hand knotting is the highest order of rug making. Woven one knot at a time by a skilled weaver, these rugs are durable (lasting for more than 20 years with proper care), shed minimally, and are true works of art.

Process — A weaver sits behind a loom and hand ties individual knots onto the warp of the loom (the vertical line), weaving stitches one by one along the weft (the horizontal line). The process requires a highly skilled hand and can take anywhere from 4 months to a year to complete.
