How do I clean and care for a polyester rug?

Best practices for stain removal, vacuuming, and protecting polyester rugs.

Polyester rugs are generally stain-resistant but be sure to attend to spills promptly to prevent any stains from setting into the fibers. First, blot the spill with a clean, dry sponge or cloth to absorb as much liquid as possible. Avoid rubbing the stain, as this can spread it further. Use a solution of detergent and warm water (1:10 ratio) or a gentle rug shampoo and scrub gently with a soft brush. Should the stain persist, we recommend professional cleaning.

A general note: For vacuuming, use a vacuum cleaner without a beater bar or one where you can set the bar to the highest pile setting. If your vacuum has variable power settings, set on low. Vacuum full length of the rug, turn and repeat to the next area, rather than back and forth motion. We also recommend using a rug pad to prevent slipping premature wear.
