# How should I clean and care for a cotton rug?

## Best practices for cleaning, stain removal, and protecting cotton rugs.

Check the care instructions on your rug. some cotton rugs can be machine washed on the delicate cycle, using warm water and mild detergent. Larger rugs should be treated with a dry-cleaning powder to prevent damage.

While cotton is absorbent, it's important to avoid saturating the rug with water, as excessive moisture can lead to shrinkage, distortion, or mildew growth. Use a minimal amount of water when spot cleaning and ensure the rug dries thoroughly after cleaning.

A general note: Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, as it can cause fading and damage to the rug fibers. If possible, place the rug in a location where it's shielded from intense sunlight or use window treatments to block UV rays.
